What Do You Plan To Do About the Heart Failure Epidemic?

The illustration shows the major signs and sym...

Heart failure is increasing at an alarming rate in the US and around the world.

You should be MUCH more concerned about heart disease than any other health issue, because you are more likely to die of heart disease than any other health concern you may have!

Having said that, I want to STRESS the following FACTS:

  • diabetes and sugar intake significantly increase your chance of succumbing to heart disease and heart failure!
  • high blood pressure is a paved road to heart failure!
  • highly processed foods lead to heart failure through weight gain, mal-nutrition, and water retention.
  • inactivity will drain the strength of your muscles, including your HEART MUSCLE.  (So will Statins!)
  • your inability to process your emotions in a healthy way contributes to heart failure as much as every point listed above.
  • sometimes the first sign of heart disease is a HEART ATTACK!
  • most women who have a heart attack succumb to heart failure within one year.
  • heart failure is very difficult to diagnose, so you may not even hear the term until you are fighting for your life in intensive care.
  • the CDC says that 20% of patients die within one year of a heart failure diagnosis, and 50% die within five years.
  • young people are also succumbing to heart disease, including heart failure.

Are you going to wait for your doctor to sound the alarm about heart disease and heart failure? Continue reading What Do You Plan To Do About the Heart Failure Epidemic?

Does Your New Years Resolution Involve Creating Happiness?

New Years Resolution

No matter what you want to accomplish in the new year, it is all about greater happiness, isn’t it?

I am hoping that your New Year’s Resolution is not the only goal you set this year.  Goal setting is something I do on a regular basis, and I’ve taught my children to do it.

If life is worth living, it is worth setting goals, achieving them and celebrating your success!

Do you have any goal in your goals journal that is NOT about greater happiness?

So what is it about your New Years Resolution that makes it different from all your other goals?

If you are like most people, your New Year’s Resolutions is probably one of the goals that you never find the time to get to!

The “To Dos” that nag at you are the ones that you know you SHOULD get to.  When you don’t, you beat yourself up.

Bad habits are at the top of the list of things you never get around to tackling.

Don’t overwhelm yourself.  If you have more than one bad habit you’d like to get rid of …  Continue reading Does Your New Years Resolution Involve Creating Happiness?

Can’t Get Into the Holidays? Do You Know the Symptoms of Depression?

Update December 4, 2012

In 2009 I was giving conscious effort to my struggle with depression!

Putting in the time to address this huge concern without harming myself with drugs was a large factor in the huge success I’ve had with my personal battle with depression over these past 3 years!

Reading this post makes me realize just how far I’ve come!

The insight that much of what I thought of as “depression” was actually post traumatic stress syndrome helped me in my healing process.  In the new year I’d like to spend some time exploring what PTS is and what you can do about it with you here on Heart Failure Solutions.

PTSS/PTSD effect many more people than get help.  It doesn’t necessarily require drugs to heal from post traumatic stress, but it does require awareness!

The good news is that these days Carrie Tucker, The Life Breath Coach, lives with such passion all day everyday that I NEVER think about depression!

I do NOT have a personal battle with depression!  NONE!

Finding Purpose and Serving from your heart is a powerful cure for depression!

I’ve still got a business to run and 3 kids at home to parent, but I do not battle with depression any longer!

(December 18th, 2009)

Ever get over-whelmed?

There is SO much going on in my life with running my business, single parenting my children, and the increased chaos from the holidays!  Overwhelm is down right depressing!

I’m not about to head to my doctor and see what kind of medication he can give me to mask my symptoms of depression.

Depression is my personal rival!

Overwhelm gets to the best of us, but when you begin to experience symptoms of depression, it’s time to nurture yourself and reach out to your support system.

Do you know the symptoms of depression? Continue reading Can’t Get Into the Holidays? Do You Know the Symptoms of Depression?

Is Low Blood Oxygen Level Dangerous?

Is Low Blood Oxygen Level Dangerous?

ALL of the cells that make up your body need oxygen or they will DIE!

Hey, no joke!

Killing off cells sure won’t build health.

If your oxygen level falls low enough, it can stimulate your vagus nerve and cause your heart to stop.

Got that?

If you are ignoring your low oxygen level, you are risking DEATH!

Do you have low oxygen levels?  Are you risking death without noticing?

  •  Ask your family to tell you if your lips are blue.

While you’re asking, find out if anyone has noticed short term memory loss.

  •  How was your last eye exam?

Were your eyes worse? Low oxygen levels cause the loss of your eye sight.

  •  Do you hit a brick wall of fatigue at the end of your day?

Do you wake up feeling tired?  Low oxygen levels MEAN low energy levels!

Do you know what you need to about YOUR blood oxygen level? Continue reading Is Low Blood Oxygen Level Dangerous?

Why Is Physical Fitness So Important? Step 1, Getting Started.

Why Is Physical Fitness So Important?

Physical fitness is not a popular subject outside the gym.

Why is physical fitness so important?  To a couch potato, it’s a dirty word.

To someone dying of heart failure, it is unthinkable.

If you are not an athlete, why should you care about physical fitness?

Have you ever heard the expression “Move it or lose it”?

Why is physical fitness so important?

Because if you are inactive you will die prematurely of Sedentary Death Syndrome.

Look, if the mention of exercise makes your heart sink, then just get up and walk out the door on a regular basis.

Check out the flowers, clouds, and birds.  Depending on where you live, maybe the architecture is interesting or the people colorful.

Don’t call it exercise.

Make it a ritual to unplug from thinking and just move.

If you can’t move your body down the road, then move it in your yard, or on your patio, down the hallway or dance in your chair!

Just move.

If you will move, everyday consistently, until your heart rate increases and your tension is released, you will understand why physical fitness it so important.

You will FEEL it.

The experience is much like a warm blanket on a cold rainy day.

You get so stiff and your circulation so dull with built up sludge when you let yourself go.  Easing yourself into forward motion is a process that requires gentle patience.

No pain no gain is a myth.

In fact, respect your limits and you will recover and rebuild from the effort much quicker so that your gains will be greater tomorrow.

Breathe and relax WHILE you MOVE!

Speed and distance are really not important.

You may be tempted to bring along your ipod or mp3, but I encourage you to try and spend your active time stilling your thoughts and leaving the “space” for silence.

You won’t be gone long.  You can resume your flurry of activity when you finish increasing your heart rate, releasing your tension, and causing the space for relaxation.

Look, if you can just start there, maybe everyone else you love and care about can too.

The buddy system works great, or even an accountability partner to check in with.  Support helps!  Community is worth your time, and group activity is just plain FUN!

There is no rush here though!  Start where you are and talk to a friend about it.  Can you do that?

Part 1 is about changing your mind about physical fitness.

Maybe it really is just as simple as walking out the door.

Why Is Physical Fitness So Important?

Because it feels good, and you’re worth it!

Are Anxiety, Fear and Restlessness Harming Your Relationships And Your Health?

Do you “hermit” away from the world when you are run down and tired?

If you don’t take care of yourself, you disconnect from friends and family because you don’t have the energy to nurture those important relationships.

Some folks recharge by spending time with friends, others need solitary time to regroup.  So, for some people retreating like a hermit is therapeutic!

How do you recharge?

If you are a care giver, odds are that self care if not your top priority!

You likely drag yourself from one task to the next.

The problem is, IF not taking care of yourself is a habit, then the symptoms of feeling run down and all around lousy start to feel normal.

Everything is relative right?

When you are at the end of your rope, anxiety, fear and restlessness keep you from slowing down enough to refuel.

Ignoring self care will make you sick!

Do you FEEL:

  • tired
  • foggy (hard to focus)
  • heavy
  • irritable
  • addicted to caffeine
  • fearful and anxious
  • moody
  • restless despite your fatigue

Seriously …. take a hard look at it.

Do you feel cranky by the end of the day?

Do you have a tough time sleeping?

It’s not just a normal part of the aging process and it is NOT something you have to live with!

How do you heal anxiety, fear and restlessness?

7 Simple steps taken consistently will go a long way to remedy what’s ailing you.

Step 1  Witness your feelings!

Journal your feelings.  Physical and emotional feelings are the sign posts to living better and feeling better.

If you are numb and in denial, you are stuck.

Ask yourself…

How am I feeling in my body, mind and soul?

Step 2  Release!

What you resist persists, allow whatever you see.

Accept your feelings.

Step 3  Notice.

Are there patterns in your life that repeat themselves in all the various aspects of work and personal relationships?

Is your focus on you or someone else?

You can only fix you.  Make sure you stay out of other people’s feelings.  You can support them, but you have no business fixing anybody but you.

What might your feelings be trying to tell you?

Don’t over analyze.

Maybe your feelings stem from being tired and depleted.

Step 4  Respond.

Choose to respond to your feelings instead of react to the external forces that you feel throughout your day.

Nutrition can really play a part here, as can rest and relaxation.

If you are stretched beyond your coping limits, you do not have access to a controlled response.

Take a breath and make some space for stillness.

You will find your inner guidance and Peace.

Your response will be much better when you come from your heart.

Step 5  Evaluate

You can’t build on your progress until you acknowledge it.

Record your progress if possible, so that you can literally measure your growth.

Step 6  Love Yourself

All love starts with self love.

If you can’t love yourself, you can’t give or receive love from anyone else.

Step 7  Nurture Yourself

Nurturing is love in action!
