Is An Epidemic Of Heart Failure A Big Enough Reason To Overcome PTSD?

Want to address your risk of heart failure?

If you have been around for long you know that I am pretty passionate about spreading the truth about heart disease.

The world is dying of an epidemic of heart failure and it just isn’t necessary!

Yet, I can’t seem to make the time to get more blog posts written and get all my programs offered in an easy online format so that it is available for the masses of people suffering and those that soon will be.  What is wrong with me?

That’s a good question.  I use to wonder that myself.

I have been plagued all my life with depression symptoms, but I learned a long time ago that depression meds made me paranoid so I made sure to use those symptoms as a red flag to get my butt busy and be more active.  To choose better foods when I shop so that my home only has wholesome food choices.  That’s what works for me.

Depression is not overwhelming to me.

I know that I can take the steps I need to take to face it and let it guide me to the next chapter of my life, or to heal a relationship that needs attention.

Depression can show me old emotion I suppressed until time could heal enough for me to allow my feelings.

Symptoms of depression make me hold myself accountable for what I’m eating and how inactive my life has become.

I consider early symptoms of depression to be my yellow flag and I don’t wait for the red flags to start showing up, I take action!

Once you’ve lived through clinical depression and come out the other side, you don’t want to go back.

A couple of years ago I started to notice that my depression symptoms were often triggered.

Sometimes the trigger for my depression symptoms didn’t make sense to me.  I would argue with myself.

“What’s the big deal?”  But the depression symptoms still came.  I couldn’t argue with the trigger.

One day a car accident happened directly in front of me.  I got out and helped until the paramedics arrived.

It wasn’t a fatal accident but there were some significant injuries.

As I walked back to my car after telling the paramedic what I’d observed on the scene, I noticed that my hands and feet were numb.

It made me curious, so I began doing some research.  I’m glad I did!

How Do You Support Mourners Through the Stages of Grief?

Stages of Grief

Grief just is.  There is no right and wrong to it.  It just is.

Though there are many flavors of grief.

You are touched by it when a member of your community is struck down unexpectedly.

When you experience personal loss grief can swallow you whole.

Grief can surprise you.  Sometimes your emotions are unavailable to you for a while.  You need time to heal a bit before you can open them up.

Other times your emotions spill out and you are shocked by their intensity.

Grief feels like suffering, it’s hard to see it as healthy in anyway.

You just want it to stop.

Would you choose to stop the grief if it meant that you couldn’t remember your loved one?

Even in the early stages of grief when it’s rough to even breathe, erasing your precious memories would be far too high a price to pay.

When your pain is so raw you think it will kill you, hold on to the fact that time will eventually heal you so that you can remember and smile.

Time is definitely a friend to the grieving.

When you can think of your lost loved one and laugh and enjoy the memory, you know that Time is doing its job.

The grieving process is a very individual thing, but understanding that there really are common aspects to it can help you feel less crazy or to worry less about others who grieve differently than you do.

Do you see yourself somewhere in the process? Continue reading How Do You Support Mourners Through the Stages of Grief?

Are You Too Proud To Heal From Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome?

Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome

When you think of “shell shock” what comes to mind?

During World War One Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome was a huge problem. Doctors believed that the tell tale “thousand yard stare” was a sign that the close proximity of exploding shells had caused trauma to the brain.

If you take that reasoning into consideration, it is troublesome to discover that it was common practice for Doctors to prescribe rest away from the front for Officers, while enlisted men were often accused of being cowards and sent right back out to the battlefield.

Some were shot for cowardice, or punished in a variety of creative ways.  Though enlisted men would be more likely to have been in close proximity of exploding shells than Officers, wouldn’t they?

If you are likely to be shot on the spot or court martialed you aren’t very likely to seek help when you need it most.

It seems that the history of Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome is one of shame and persecution.

With soldier suicides being such a huge issue in today’s world, you hear a lot about what they are doing to identify those who need help in an effort to control the climbing death toll.

The struggle today is to get soldiers to admit that they need help before it’s too late.  They aren’t facing a firing squad, but they feel like they are letting their unit down.  They aren’t keeping up their end.

Admitting that you need help with Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome feels like admitting a weakness.

When you think of Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome you might think of soldiers at war.  However, emergency response workers are on the front lines of daily life.

Identifying those who need help among emergency response workers can be very difficult as well.  Admitting you need help might endanger your job and your livelihood.

Family caregivers are at risk as well.  Continue reading Are You Too Proud To Heal From Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome?

There is SO much going on in my life with running my business, single parenting my children, and the increased chaos from the holidays!  Overwhelm is down right depressing!

I’m not about to head to my doctor and see what kind of medication he can give me to mask my symptoms of depression.

Depression is my personal rival!

Overwhelm gets to the best of us, but when you begin to experience symptoms of depression, it’s time to nurture yourself and reach out to your support system.

Do Your Symptoms of Depression, Anxiety and Fear Need To Be Drugged?

If your mental health care professional tells you that you should take medication for your symptoms of depression, anxiety and fear, is that reason enough to take it?

Would you like some proof that the medication is safe and effective?

You will not find any scientific proof that psychiatric drugs are safe OR effective treatment for any of your symptoms.

In fact, there is proof that they cause the symptoms they are supposed to treat!

Does that sound scientific to you?  Are you aware of the known side effects of psychiatric medication?

You Owe It To Yourself To Find Out the Facts!  Watch the following video with an open mind and judge for yourself.

It will take 2 and a half minutes to convince you that you should know what you are swallowing.

I hope you feel compelled to share this information with your friends and family, because I would hate to see you or them hurt by a hasty decision.

Drugging depression is potentially lethal!

What your doctor “doesn’t know” could kill you!

What YOU don’t know about drugging yourself could kill you!

If the drug companies are powerful enough to get away with what they are doing, then it is up to you and me to spread the word.  Drugging symptoms of depression is not a decision you should make lightly.  Certainly not JUST because your doctor said so!

There is a simple approach to healing depression and mental health.

You owe it to yourself to try healing without harm BEFORE you succumb to drugs.

Can Symptoms Of Depression Lead To An Emotional Storm Of Healing?

Depression reminds me of a slow drizzle on a gray day.

Depression feels like a slow drizzle.

I mean it isn’t something you would associate with a down pour.

Depression is more like an endless gloomy day.

We have had an unusual number of gray drizzly days.  Every time I look out my window I feel a bit depressed.

When I get out in the drizzle, I pull my coat around me tightly and hurry through my daily walk.

Well today, I looked up at the sky from my desk and wondered what kind of a walk I would have today.

Intermittent clouds threatened to make it soggy, and after the pounding rains last night, I wondered if I might need an umbrella.

By the time I put my shoes on and leashed up the dogs, it looked like the sun was going to shine down on us.

We hit the road with the cool trade winds blowing a light drizzle in our faces, and the sun warming our backs.

Right away I was struck by the loud sound of flowing water from a stream that had accumulated where there isn’t normally a stream.

“What a treat!”

Just the sound seemed to wash away my dark mood.

When we reached a part of the road where the flowing water traveled through the tall grass and splashed down small unseen water falls, it seemed like the sound was all around us.

The little stream that runs beside our daily walk had come to life during the down pour last night.

Where the new road is being plowed at the end of the pavement, there was glistening beauty, and sparkling playful waterfalls where the bare earth lie exposed yesterday.

I took the time to be still and breathe in the wonderful peaceful feeling the stream had created.

The flowing water seemed to have made the world pure and clean again.

My light mood was a gift from the storm.

Your symptoms of depression really can give way to an emotional storm that can wash away the wounds of the past if you allow it.

Mother Nature’s dramatic storm had washed the world clean.  When you let your emotions RIP… they are capable of washing YOU clean.

Whether it is excitement or intense grief, the shear power of the emotion can be felt in your gut, and often causes you to feel like if you don’t move or make some kinda noise, you will just burst.  Powerful emotions get your juices flowing.

If you suppress an intense emotion you can feel it rot your gut and climb up your throat.

Did you get the message when you are very young that it is not okay to express unpleasant emotions?

Stuffing your emotions will cause you much suffering.

Emotions are your spiritual compass.  They are meant to give direction in the moment they arise.

It is your choice to follow the direction your emotions point you, or ignore them.

When you choose to deny an emotion you prevent the release of that energy so it stays in you and harms you.
