Can Transcendental Meditation Take You From Ba Humbug To Hohoho?

Christmas 2008-s

It’s way too early in the season to be saying “Bah-Humbug!”

Are you already grumbling about commercialism and traffic?

Transcending chaos is more about finding Peace than being Jolly, the idea is to find some enjoyment in the season for you and yours.

No offense to those who practice Transcendental Meditation!  We honor your hearts and don’t mean to imply that your intention has anything to do with Santa Clause!  You may not refer to your quiet prayer or simple “conversation with God” as a “Transcendental Meditation Practice”, but all of the above can help you deal with holiday stress and have more fun with your family this year.

If you don’t spend your holiday season with family, we pray that you spend it with friends or are invited to share with new friends.

Nobody should be alone at the holidays.

Chad Kubo, the Life Dance Coach, shared a memory with us on a recent Life Breath Club Meeting about a difficult Christmas he spent not so long ago.  He said it was the year of Continue reading Can Transcendental Meditation Take You From Ba Humbug To Hohoho?

If you have ever felt like you couldn’t catch your breath you understand exactly how scarey that can feel!

Calling 911 is a no brainer! You are painfully aware of the urgency of the situation.

But, what about when you get unexpected horrible news or you find yourself in the middle of a natural disaster? Continue reading Is Shortness Of Breath A Concerning Symptom Or A Rational Response To Trauma?

Can Swing Dance Overcome Pain Better Than Pain Pills?

If you suffer from chronic pain please know that I have the deepest sympathy for what you live through every day!

Pain robs you of so much of the Joy in life.

You don’t pursue happiness or anything else if your chronic pain is significant!

It’s heart breaking to watch your elders age when they are in a great deal of pain.  Many times the elderly are neglected simply because their family just can’t handle watching their loved one suffer.

I’m not making excuses, but I’m not trying to judge either.metoprolol side effects

Pain is difficult to live with all the way around!

The Life Breath Coach here on Heart Failure Solutions will tell you that taking pain medication to cope with pain contributes to heart disease.

But even heart disease later is better than pain NOW … isn’t it?

With heart disease you think you will just grab your chest and fall to the ground.  But the world is experiencing an epidemic of heart failure and succumbing to that fate means Continue reading Can Swing Dance Overcome Pain Better Than Pain Pills?

Do You Have Swing Dance History That Brings a Smile To Your Face?

It’s already Sunday and we are heading into a new week.

Did the holiday turn your schedule upside down last week?

Falling mid week the way it did messed with the entire week.

The 4th of July was also my birthday.Swing Dance History

And this year my celebration was bittersweet.

For many years, my family and I have gone to the Marin County Fair to celebrate my birthday.

It’s a great place to celebrate because the Preservation Jazz Hall Band performs, and it’s always guaranteed that swing dancers will show up and have a great time.

With my Swing Dance History, it’s the perfect place to celebrate another year!

Since my divorce I have gone each year with my youngest daughter.

This year, my ex-wife was planning to go with friends and my teen-aged stepdaughter and called asking us to meet them there.

I had my reservations about it – would it be awkward? would my ex want to dance with me? should I accept? Continue reading Do You Have Swing Dance History That Brings a Smile To Your Face?

Do Swing Dance Lessons Sound as Terrible as Exercise?

Have ever tried an exercise regimen —to get in better shape, to lose weight, or just to be healthier?

How did it end?

Was your exercise regimen a painful, uncomfortable experience?

If you made it more than one day, you fought hard!  Good on ya!

More times than not though, you don’t stick with it … right?

The frustration of failing!

The shame of not following through on your promises!

Looking in the mirror and seeing little to no progress after suffering through pain and frustration!

Sick of trying?

I feel ya!  It’s hard to sink your teeth into yet another attempt at exercise!

So, back to my original question …

Do Swing Dance Lessons Sound as Terrible as Exercise?

A while back I met an awesome guy who told me stories that brought tears to my eyes. Continue reading Do Swing Dance Lessons Sound as Terrible as Exercise?

Is Surrendering To the Now of Mindfulness Meditation Really Possible?

Is Surrendering To the Now of Mindfulness Meditation Really Possible?

Mindfulness Meditation is a type of meditation that essentially involves focusing your mind on the present in a way that allows you to witness your thoughts and actions without judging yourself.

Is there a secret to allowing what is?

If there is a secret to Mindfulness Meditation, it is creating a still space that will serve as your doorway to Now.

Can you be still?

Does the constant conversation in your head ever stop?

A friend of mine had a particularly hard time with never stopping thought.  I’ll call her Pamela.

Pamela was a very together lady.

She ran a day care out of her home, and you never saw a place so clean, tidy and on schedule!

The woman appeared to have calm and serene down to a science.  When she picked up a bell and rang it, the toddlers buzzing about her feet jumped up and began singing “clean up clean up everybody everywhere, clean up clean up, everybody do your share”.

They all did their share and the room was clean in a flash.  It was an amazing sight to see.  I thought that only happened on television.

A super hero disguised as a little old lady!

I felt like I should ask for her autograph.  The woman had everything under control!

She became a good friend to me, and “Auntie Pam” to my young daughters.

When the two of us decided to take a meditation class together, I saw a side of Auntie Pam that shocked me. Continue reading Is Surrendering To the Now of Mindfulness Meditation Really Possible?
