Is It Just Stress? Chest Pain Isn’t Always Serious, Is It?

Do you ever feel significant chest pain?

Does it worry you?

Any type of chest pain that causes you concern or that is accompanied by any of the following symptoms, should be considered an emergency:

  • Pressure, tightness and squeezing pain across the chest
  • Pain radiating down the arm, shoulders, jaw, neck, and back, particularly on the left side
  • Shortness of breath
  • Dizziness, sweating, weakness, overwhelming fatigue
  • Feeling of impending doom
  • Headache, blurry vision, light-headedness, feeling faint
  • Gastrointestinal symptoms such as indigestion, nausea and vomiting
  • Coughing and palpitations

You are much better safe than sorry.

If you experience symptoms like those above, you want to get to a hospital and rule out the possibility that you are having a heart attack.

Do not reason it away and lose valuable time.

There are many other causes of chest pain that can become worrisome, but they won’t give you sudden extreme symptoms like those of a heart attack.

Any of the following might give you chest pain:

  • GERD or heartburn
  • excessive belching
  • hiatal hernia
  • gastric ulcer
  • pulled muscle

Suffice to say that if you are worried, seek the advice of your doctor.

Is Your Screen Time Causing Your Early Signs of Heart Disease?

How much time do you spend every day staring at a screen?

That is television, computer, text messaging … all of those screens.

You may spend more time than you think you do.

Researcher Professor David Dunstan told London’s The Independent that even if someone has a healthy body weight, sitting for long periods of time still has an unhealthy influence on their blood sugar and blood fats.

A study from Australia reports that every hour you spend watching television increases your risk of heart disease by 18%.  I’m no math wiz so I won’t tell you what that adds up to, but suffice to say

That same study found that people who spent hours watching television greatly increased the chances of dying early from heart attacks and strokes.


TV increases your risk of cancer death, and your risk of death from all causes.

 

A lot of the normal activities of daily living that use to involve standing up and moving the muscles in the body have been converted to sitting.

Sitting and reading a book for an hour, could also increase your risk of death.

Is your work increasing the chance of death?  If you have to sit at a desk for long hours … Yes.

How Long Does It Take To Work Through the Stages of Grief?

 

There is no right way to grieve.  There is no time limit to grief.

The rest of the world may want you to “get over it” and rejoin the living, but you will grieve until you have allowed the grieving process to heal you.

That can be challenging, because grief hurts so much it feels like it will kill you.  It is hard to “allow” an emotion that feels so harmful.

It is hard to allow the stages of grief.

Denial feels so much better than grief within the moments that your heart is breaking.

Lena was very close to her family.

Her parents had a very deep love, and they shared that Love with her and her younger sister.

When her Father passed, her Mother wasn’t far behind.  She said she knew her mom wouldn’t stick around without him.

Is Heart Bypass Surgery Over Kill For a Simple Health Challenge?

When you hear a simple suggestion for a HUGE problem, do you dismiss it?

If it’s a HUGE problem, it probably needs an equally big solution, wouldn’t you say?

What if you are dead wrong?

What if the simple solution you just dismissed is the answer to your prayers?

“No thanks, simple solutions really aren’t my style, I like the drama of heart bypass surgery.”

Are you serious?

If there is a simple solution to your health challenges, then why would your doctor offer you such in invasive solution?

Maybe because it doesn’t require you to do anything but show up?  Problem is, you need to show up again in 10 years for a repeat performance of “Slicing You Open”.

Perhaps the even bigger issues are the ones your doctor doesn’t have a quick fix for.  In fact, unless your doctor is knowledgeable about a specific “simple solution”, he/she does not know how to help you with a laundry list of health problems!

Can a List of Foods High in Magnesium Help You Live Your Purpose?

Are you living your purpose?

It is tough to drag yourself out of bed in the morning if you don’t feel driven by your purpose.

Whether you have found your purpose, or you are still looking for it, you need to focus on the desires of your heart.

The desires of your heart will always call you to your purpose.

A nagging urge that you aren’t doing what you should be doing can get really uncomfortable.

Do you see signs that your purpose is calling?

  • Feeling restless?
  • Do you sometimes get irritable without knowing why?
  • Does silence make you nervous?
  • Do you dislike down time?
  • What wakes you up in the middle of the night?

If your purpose is calling you, the best thing to do is get still and listen.

Your intuition will tell you where to focus your attention.
Your intuition will chart your course if you let it, and the secret to hearing your intuition is to relax and focus your attention on your heart.

  • rye
  • tofu
  • soy beans (organic and non GMO unless you are fearful of soy)

  • avocado
  • parsley
  • beans
  • barley
  • dandelion greens
  • garlic

While you’re out check into magnesium supplements as well.

Just keep in mind that you want to take magnesium with calcium.  (2:1 calcium to magnesium)

Have you ever solved a HUGE problem with a really simple solution?

Let me tell you a story about an aging loved one who was effected by extreme fatigue that was much more serious than her family suspected!

She had been hospitalized many times but just couldn’t bring herself to use it on a consistent basis.

When I advised Yolanda that her oxygen levels were so low that they were life threatening, she would become very agitated with me.

“Be serious”, she’d say. “I can’t possibly drag that oxygen tank all over town with me!”

Each time I saw her it was the same story, and each time I saw her she had a recent hospitalization or trip to emergency to tell me about.

It was just ongoing. Yolanda had no quality of life, and neither did her family, because they spent so much time making emergency trips to the hospital.

When I saw Yolanda after a particularly lengthy hospitalization, she was looking defeated and depressed. She said if she had to spend her life at the end of a leash, she may as well just lie down and die.

I challenged her on that!

I got her up out of bed, switched her to portable oxygen and carried the tank to her garden. She was protesting, but I wasn’t having it.

It was a beautiful morning, and the cardinals were socializing, so we were in for a treat. The two of us sat there and lost track of time.

We chatted about her flowers and Yolanda told me hilarious stories about her grand-son. (Don’t worry Kai, your secret is safe with me.)

When Yolanda’s daughter showed up, I figured that was the best possible time to bring up the dreaded subject she had been avoiding all day.

“You know Yolanda, you might be able to enjoy more days like today with the people you care about if you just stop shoving your oxygen in the closet pretending you don’t need it.”

Yolanda was a long time smoker and had very low oxygen levels. I had been advising her that she needed to use supplemental oxygen to meet her oxygen needs, or she was going to lose her eye sight, her short-term memory, and her strength.

I just hadn’t been able to say that in front of her daughter. Her daughter was usually at work, and when I told Yolanda, I’m sure she forgot about it.

(After all, low oxygen levels DO cause short-term-memory loss!)

Of course, memory loss or no, Yolanda WANTED to forget about it, because she felt it was an unreasonable, inconvenience, AND it messed up her make-up!

I hugged Yolanda and apologized for telling on her before I left, but she looked too worn out to protest.

Yolanda did manage to stay out of the hospital for long stretches that following year, but living in denial had really taken its toll. Her heart muscle had been significantly weakened while she was starving herself of oxygen.

Her daughter, Kai’s mom, was happy to be able to care for her mother without turning her life upside down.

“I wish she would have taken better care of herself, but I’m really glad to know that there is a simple way to keep her out of the hospital more of the time”, she said.

Then she pointed at her mom, as a parent would a child and said, “you should be ashamed of yourself. If you can’t take care of yourself for you, could you at least do it for us?”

I have to give Yolanda credit. She really did take the message to heart, at long last, and make an effort to take better care of herself. Her daughter bought a pulse oximeter, so that there was no more arguing about whether or not Yolanda needed oxygen.

It made her nose run, so she was forever putting the prongs in her mouth, or pulling it down below her nose, but hey, she worked with it.
