  7. my number is 81 just got a oxygen mech. and a cpap. is it ok to watch t .v . with just oxygen on , then turn on the cpap before sleeping ???

    • Aloha Cecil,
Sure it’s ok to watch television with just oxygen. I hope you are using the oxygen while you make a point to be active everyday. Don’t exercise with out it!

Many of my clients are not compliant with their sleep apnea equipment. Make it work for you! It’s a powerful healing tool, but it isn’t the final answer, especially IF you heal and drastically improve your health.

It’s important to re-evaluate when you improve OR deteriorate. Make sure you advocate for yourself. It’s up to you to get the care you need.

Enjoy some cozy time on oxygen before lights out for bed. Your doctor may warn you that it is dangerous to fall asleep without it. The point is that it needs to fit into your life, or you will stop using it altogether.

      Be well.

      Many blessings,
      Carrie

  8. My wife has had three rounds of chemotherapy and her heart is functioning at 15%. Her oxygen level when she gets up in the morning is 60%. With oxygen she can raise that to 85%. She is in hospice care at this time. I assume that with an oxygen level so low that she will die at any time. Does this seem like a reasonable conclusion. I am trying to figure out how close to death she is so that I know if I should have the kids come soon.

    • Aloha Marc,
Bless your heart. You are in such a tough position. It’s horrible to watch a loved one suffer.

I emailed you. Please reply to my message with your phone number if you’d like some support or would just like to get a better idea of what your wife is facing.

Many blessings to you and yours,

  9. While recently hospitalized after an outside accident near home I developed a severe case of pnuemonia, I am home now with precsribed oxygen of 2 liters daytime and 4 liters night time with my Cpap. My oxygen sats stay normal at 94-98% at rest even with out supplemental oxygen but drop to low 80’s with exertion. Had a sleep study test and the technition said I did not need oxygen at all during the test. Doctors report say interstitial pulmonary fibrosis and had me on prendisone which I was eventualy weaned of. Just had a PFT which showed I only have 60-63% lung capacity. I feel fine, no sympthoms of anyting, no shortness of breath, no chest pain, nothing. What is going on and should I be worried? I cannot deal with this stress.

    • Aloha Kathleen,
Are you taking diuretics? (water pills)

How about your ankles? Are they swollen?

Does increasing your supplemental oxygen liter flow keep your oximetry levels up?

  10. COPD hit me like a brick 6 months ago. But after reading this blog I am realizing how close I put myself to death. Sitting my o2 is at 96% and if I push myself it goes to 72%. I can function around 83 to 86%. I have a large oxygen generator with a 90′ tube. I have always been active and it is so hard to keep sitting. I smoked for 15 years but haven’t smoked for over 25 years. I was a Mechanic for 37 years and the Doctor says that it was also a factor. I have a pulmanoligest doctor and he is trying to help me get an Airsep Focus that is small enough to put on my belt. But my medicare is taking there sweet time. Thank you for informing me of the danger I am putting myself in. If I suddenly died my wife would be pissed. Thanks Dan

  11. hello i have a freind who has copd he said his level are at 85 oxyen he has sort turm memory loss and still drives car . he will not take any advice and said doctor said 85 was ok what can i do to stop him hurting him self or someone els can u please help me with this he is 71 this year under doctor but wont tell even his wife the truth but we can see how bad he is

    • Hello Karl,
      What a difficult situation.

I’d encourage you to report unsafe driving to the authorities, you really have no other recourse.

Perhaps speaking to his wife will help. Certainly no doctor is actually telling him that 85% is adequate. I know several people who drive that shouldn’t and have not had any luck dealing with this situation personally. It really is a big safety issue.

Thanks for your concern. Keep trying.

      Many blessings,
      Carrie
