UPDATE March 3, 2012
It seems hard to believe that almost an entire year has passed since I wrote this post!
Time is so precious!
It slips away before you know it!

============================================================================================================================
The rain has been pounding on the ridge I live on.
I’m talking, a small river has formed!
It really isn’t surprising that a tree fell. In fact, the one I thought would fall next … fell.
I just wasn’t counting on losing my internet connection Mother’s Day Weekend!
The day before Mother’s Day was the very first lesson of “The Increase Your Oxygen Challenge”! (Now The Life Breath Club!)
Taking it all in stride helped. “Whatcha gonna do?”
Thanks to my girlfriend, JoAnn, I was able to relocate and set up in time to get a few hours sleep, and then be live with the Life Breath Club Members at 7am my time!
By the time I got home, I was ready for a long nap. I had more things than I could count to do. But everything stopped and I crawled in my bed.
I respect my bodies need for sleep. It doesn’t mean I don’t take massive action! In fact getting inspired has caused a sleep debt for me personally, many times. I’ve just learned to recognize the need to schedule sleep, as well as clear the schedule when an unexpected need for sleep arises.
Prioritizing your sleep can mean going to bed with dirty dishes in your sink …. “gasp!”
Unfinished work on your desk … “gasp!”
Prioritizing your sleep can mean … asking for help … “gasp!!”
At least it’s comforting to know that creative energy doesn’t usually show up when you are depleted. It shows up when you are most nurtured!
It seemed almost a gift from Mother Nature to be completely disconnected from the internet, phone and cable television on Mother’s Day. Nobody watched a dvd, even! We all just seemed to enjoy the connectedness we felt with each other all day long.
We talked, “lots of story”, and ate all day. I read a book one of my daughters asked me to read. It was relaxing to take in some teen literature and glean some conversation starters.
This book was very important to her, and she wanted me to share it with her. There were a few interesting points that I’m sure will open up some enlightening “girl talk” with her very soon.
My younger daughter was much more receptive than usual all day long, so we had a really nice, very deep conversation. It was much more successful than my two previous attempts to discuss that subject with her, lol!
Over all it was a stellar day in parenting.
My girls fed me well, and then in honor of Mother’s Day I took a long soak in a hot tub. It was wonderful! Then I slept like a baby!
Now I’m up in the wee hours of the morning writing.
Quiet time is my favorite time.
In my house you take that where you can get it. I don’t question the rhythm of my day.
You need more sleep than you lost to make up for a sleep debt. Patience is valuable when respecting your need for sleep. So, I’ll eat light to take it easy on my system, schedule another nap today, and go to bed early tonight if need be.

Hi Carrie,
Thank you for sharing this post. I have been losing a few hours of sleep because of blogging. However, there have been days that I am so exhausted and just crawl into bed. When I am depleted, I just can’t think and there’s no point starring at a blank screen. I love how you mentioned schedule sleep. I am setting boundaries to shut down the computer before midnight!
As for breathing, when I go to my Pilates and Yoga session, I am often reminded how I need to be aware of my breathing. It’s a very grounding exercise that I need to do outside of my workouts 🙂
P.S. I have had internet issues lately – it’s probably telling me something. I would get all worked up but now I just turn off the computer LOL.
Aloha Diana,
I do the same thing. When I have internet issues, I feel like the universe is telling me to unplug and rest.
Sleep is a healing panacea all by itself for sure. Be good to you!
Breathing support helps a lot. Enter your contact info in the right sidebar to receive your invitation to The Life Breath Club’s weekly meeting. The simple things make all the difference, and the support of a group keeps you from forgetting to be consistent.
Health is worth the time it takes to nurture yourself, yes?
Many blessings,
Carrie
Carrie, isn’t it funny how you can just go through life and all of a sudden something makes you stop and you realize how wonderful things really are. You’re sharing of reading with your daughter was really touching. It would make sense for us to to take from this that once in a while we should turn it all off and enjoy each other and re-connect. It sure would be easier than waiting for Mother Nature to remind us 🙂
You have a lot of messages in this one post! Respecting your body and your own needs is important. I have the idea of our energy and related emotional state being like a bucket. We can give and give out of our bucket, but if we don’t take time once in a while to wander down to the stream and fill it back up we surely will run dry.
Hopefully things get back to normal for you soon and the rain gives you a break! Take care.
Bonnie
Aloha Bonnie,
Yes, yes, yes! Nothing worse than an empty bucket!
Be well, and stay full!
Many blessings,
Carrie
Wonderful reminder Carrie for us to take the time for ourselves and refresh our minds. Sleep is just as important as eating healthy and exercising every day. It rejuvenates and keep us motivated each and every day.
Aloha Lynn,
Sleep is easy to minimize but lack of sleep will sure create havoc!
Happy rejuvenating!
Carrie
Wow! Sounds like I really need to take the time to break away from technology too. I’m starting to take weekends off now, but moments during the day would really help too.
Great post, Carrie! =)
Aloha Samantha!
Weekends off sound great! Single parenting is such a heavy load, I’m doing good to steal away a couple hours at a time. But hey, whatever it takes, huh?
Be well!
Carrie
Like Roy I expected something different from the title.
Breathing is so important and hard to believe that people do it badly and land up hyperventilating and panicking.
Your exercise is a true personal connection. It can also be a scary thought
Aloha Roberta,
Slow exhale sure is a blessing when it comes to scary thoughts! 😉
Many blessings,
Carrie
I had a completely different concept when I read your title. Great post. I think the title would actually work for my family (not my kids; the rest), as well. It would take a natural disaster (like the Mississippi visit, the Alabama tornado- both where I had relatives) to make us all come together.
Thanks for the reminder.
Aloha Roy,
Reconnecting is a real blessing when it comes without natural disasters!
Many blessings to you and yours!
Carrie
