Can Symptoms Of Depression Lead To An Emotional Storm Of Healing?

Depression reminds me of a slow drizzle on a gray day.

Depression feels like a slow drizzle.

I mean it isn’t something you would associate with a down pour.

Depression is more like an endless gloomy day.

We have had an unusual number of gray drizzly days.  Every time I look out my window I feel a bit depressed.

When I get out in the drizzle, I pull my coat around me tightly and hurry through my daily walk.

Well today, I looked up at the sky from my desk and wondered what kind of a walk I would have today.

Intermittent clouds threatened to make it soggy, and after the pounding rains last night, I wondered if I might need an umbrella.

By the time I put my shoes on and leashed up the dogs, it looked like the sun was going to shine down on us.

We hit the road with the cool trade winds blowing a light drizzle in our faces, and the sun warming our backs.

Right away I was struck by the loud sound of flowing water from a stream that had accumulated where there isn’t normally a stream.

“What a treat!”

Just the sound seemed to wash away my dark mood.

When we reached a part of the road where the flowing water traveled through the tall grass and splashed down small unseen water falls, it seemed like the sound was all around us.

The little stream that runs beside our daily walk had come to life during the down pour last night.

Where the new road is being plowed at the end of the pavement, there was glistening beauty, and sparkling playful waterfalls where the bare earth lie exposed yesterday.

I took the time to be still and breathe in the wonderful peaceful feeling the stream had created.

The flowing water seemed to have made the world pure and clean again.

My light mood was a gift from the storm.

Your symptoms of depression really can give way to an emotional storm that can wash away the wounds of the past if you allow it.

Mother Nature’s dramatic storm had washed the world clean.  When you let your emotions RIP… they are capable of washing YOU clean.

Whether it is excitement or intense grief, the shear power of the emotion can be felt in your gut, and often causes you to feel like if you don’t move or make some kinda noise, you will just burst.  Powerful emotions get your juices flowing.

If you suppress an intense emotion you can feel it rot your gut and climb up your throat.

Did you get the message when you are very young that it is not okay to express unpleasant emotions?

Stuffing your emotions will cause you much suffering.

Emotions are your spiritual compass.  They are meant to give direction in the moment they arise.

It is your choice to follow the direction your emotions point you, or ignore them.

When you choose to deny an emotion you prevent the release of that energy so it stays in you and harms you.

Emotional Facts You Should Know

  • Emotions are magnetic energy.

Like attracts like.  Your world is your mirror.

  • Your body uses electricity for fuel.

There is an electric current running through your body.

When you suppress emotions rather than allowing expression, you cause harm by holding a magnetic energy within your electric current.

  • Suppressed emotions create considerable suffering, emotionally as well as physically.

It is a mistake to under estimate the consequences of unexpressed emotion.

Expressing emotion allows freedom and relaxation.

Suppressing an emotion causes STRESS!

Waves of emotion releasing tears;  rather than sobs of anguish, or stoic reserve.

Expressing your needs and feelings;  rather than using deflection and blame.

Jumping for joy followed by happy dancing;  rather than self consciousness.

Beating the ground with a golf club, until your growling becomes laughter;  rather than fuming at others, and replaying the story.

Express ALL of the emotions in you and keep in mind that releasing an emotional vibration creates “space” within you.

That “space” is like a vacuum.  Be careful what you focus on, and attract, so you don’t yuck yourself up again.

(Want Joy? Focus on it!)

  • Releasing negative energy makes space for attracting positive energy.

You get what you focus on.  So release negative energy, and focus on joy!

  • Physical exercise will improve your emotional health.

Prove it too yourself!  Get out there and move until you feel your juices flowing!

Getting your juices flowing can help you to create fluidity.

Suppressing emotions causes growing rigidity.

You NEED flexibility!  Being rigid is never helpful.

  • Stuck emotions become hardened and crystallized within you.

If you continue to ignore the discomfort caused by suppressed emotions, or emotions expressed inappropriately, those emotions will become hardened and crystallized within you.

The resulting obstruction will give rise to… uncomfortable issues.

Even emotions buried deep within you can be released when you create fluidity in your body.

  • Hardened, crystallized emotional energy will eat you alive.

Even though you get to a point when a suppressed emotion is not conscious, it is always wreaking havoc by obstructing and disrupting the flow of your energy.

You lose your natural ability to heal.

  • Becoming rigid will prevent your full awareness of your feelings.

You avoid painful memories to protect yourself without realizing that by stuffing your emotions you are forced to LIVE with them.

Sorrow can be agonizing suffering, or it can be an ember that lights a fire to melt the most hardened heart.

  • You must melt away your hardness in order to truly FEEL JOY.

Rushing through your days will result in tense rigidity.

Spending time in quiet stillness will allow your emotions to surface.

Being still may result in an uncomfortable feeling.  That feeling IS your suppressed emotions rising to the surface.  Be still with them.

Emotions that arise that do not make sense to you, may just be old.  They are like misplaced stop signs.  Simply watch them as they pass through you.  When you cry and you don’t know why, be encouraged that you have just lightened your load.

As you release old emotions, be grateful for everything they have taught you.

  1. Hi Carrie,

Thanks for stopping by my blog site today. I appreciate your comments. Yes, I too have experienced the pain of repressing emotions and I now understand how important it is to experience my feelings. Feelings add color and spice to life and are not to be feared or avoided. It is also a major key to consciously managing your life. Thanks for your contribution to increasing “emotional awareness”!

    Peace and Blessings,

  2. Carie thanks for the great tools for releasing emotions.

I discovered Centerpoint Technology last week. I ordered the disc. But I have not received it yet. I am excited about the possibilities.

    1. Hi McKay,
I find that my Centerpointe disc helps me so much that I feel more rested if I sacrifice an hour of sleep to get it done! I sit upright on a buckwheat cushion with my feet behind me so that I have no choice but to maintain proper posture. Every time I sit on that cushion, my focus is to watch my breathing while I surrender into my center. Oh my, what a peaceful wonderful place. Enjoy!

      Many blessings,
      Carrie

  3. Since I’m from Oregon, I know how weather plays a part in depression, especially since I’m plagued by SAD. However, it can feel worse when the weather is beautiful.

Fortunately, good weather makes it easier to get outdoors and exercise. Being active while out in nature is one of the best depression fixes I’ve found.

    1. Hi Lynn,
Even with beautiful sunshine it is hard to shrug off depression long enough to stand up and put your shoes on, isn’t it?

Thanks for sharing your success. Spending time with Mother Nature is powerful medicine with no side effects!

When it comes, allow that inner storm to wash you clean! Vibrating with joy is worth braving that storm.

      Many blessings,
      Carrie
