      • Aloha Michelle,
My heart goes out to you! I don’t know your mother’s whole story, however you mentioned that your mom is bed ridden. That factor all by itself will cause the heart muscle to weaken. Also you said she has lost a dramatic amount of weight. The malnutrition that results from significant loss of appetite can cause fluid retention. Your mom’s weakening heart muscle will become more problematic, and fluid retention more prevalent.

You are right to a certain extent. When you are no longer able to be active, your body takes measures to break itself down in an effort to leave the planet. So yes, this is to some extent, a “natural progression toward the end”.

In order to provide the best care possible for your mom, and lessen her suffering as much as possible, it is important that you keep her oxygen level 92% or higher at all times. Also a quality nutritional supplement that is easily absorbed would be very helpful for your mom.

You are an unsung hero! I want to acknowledge the loving care you are giving your mother during this very difficult time. It is not easy to watch your loved ones fade. An article I wrote last year might offer you some comfort. You’ll find it here, https://heartfailuresolutions.com/happiness/grief-death/are-you-mourning-the-loss-of-your-loved-one-before-their-death

Take care of you! I am here if you need any advice or support.

        Many blessings,
        Carrie
