Confusion: Ever Feel Like You Have Your Head In the Clouds?

Confusion

Do you ever notice confusion … walking around like you’ve got your head in the clouds?

You know… spacey?

Like….. ”what the heck was I just doing?”, or “what was I saying?”,

or “what did I come in this room to get?”

Oh come on, you know you do.

What is that all about?

Yesterday I bumped into Bonnie, a patient I used to care for.  We were both out shopping, and just tickled pink to have a chance to catch up.  I’m sure the other shoppers were wanting us to stop blocking the isle, but we just couldn’t help ourselves.

Bonnie is a colorful lady who loves antiques and beautiful bright colors.  Her house is a fun place to visit.  My kids were amazed by the place and always begged me to schedule with her when they could come along.  They loved the house and Bonnie loved them.

I’d do my usual routine, express my concern about her low oxygen levels, and nag her to use oxygen 24/7.  Then we always took time to laugh it up and enjoy each others company.

I noticed that after our delightful isle obstructing visit, I felt like I had my head in the clouds.  You know, spacey.  I even forgot what the heck I had come into WalMart to buy.

“That sweet old lady does that to me every time,” I thought with a smile.  I always seem to be floating just above myself when I spend a little time with this charming, busy lady.

Even though she is very sick and needs to slow down and care for herself, she is still living at a crazy pace that has been the norm all her life.  From her costume jewelry, snappy dress, and makeup, to her antique hunting and social life, Bonnie’s life is simply exhausting.

She just never learned to slow down and heal, even though she spent 3 weeks on a ventilator in ICU and almost died more than once.

Low oxygen levels cause short term memory loss.  So Bonnie has the excuse of not remembering what changes she should make, long enough to make them.

If Bonnie had discovered the ability to heal herself by listening to her intuition, she could have slowed down long enough to smell the roses years ago.

The problem was that if Bonnie slowed down long enough, a deep down pain would surface.  She just didn’t have the courage to face that pain.  When she was still, the pain of losing 2 children, one to a bike accident, one to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, would raise up and choke the life out of her.

She ran and ran to keep herself from stopping long enough to think.

Everyone has a story.  What is yours?

Do you fear failure?

Maybe you have a fear of being abandoned.

Do you measure yourself by how much you do, or have?

If you do, odds are, you push yourself too hard.

Toxic Stress Causes Significant Confusion

Stress will erode your health.

Living simply is the way to keep both feet on the ground and your head out of the clouds.

Letting Purposeful work drive you daily will protect you from toxic stress.

Toxic food, environment and thoughts cause toxic stress resulting confusion.

9 Ways To Prevent Confusion

  1. Get enough sleep.
  2. Eat plenty of fresh organic fruits and vegetables
  3. Drink water in place of all other beverages.
  4. Spend time in quiet stillness daily.  Nature is a good place to unplug from your rat race.
  5. Live with purpose.  If you hate what you do, then put “Career Change” at the top of your priority list.
  6. Never succumb to self absorption.  No man is an island.  Our relationships are our lives.  At the end, what else is there?
  7. Living simply will bring more joy than any material possession could ever bring.  Joy is not complicated.
  8. Let your needs come to you with faith.  Don’t give your wants much attention.  Desiring is the point at which you are signaled to stop, look, listen.  Desire does not REQUIRE that you take action.  An ATTITUDE of GRATITUDE will keep you vibrating with Joy.
  9. Stay active to keep your juices flowing, and laugh often.  It is a direct path to Joy.

Is that just a little too simple for you?

The biggest challenge to implementing the simple tips above is being still.

Do you need to have noise all the time?  You know, like at least the radio in the background?

Do you need to stay busy?

If you sit down to relax, do you immediately turn on the television?

When you feel upset, do you reach for the phone?

If you answered yes to any of the questions above, odds are that stillness will be a challenge for you.

Heck, taking time daily to sit in quiet stillness, may be simply impossible for you at first.
