Many times, patients with low oxygen level don’t even know they have it.

It’s amazing to think that you could be in danger and not even know it!

 

Do you have any of the following symptoms?

• shortness of breath/ difficulty breathing
• extreme fatigue
• chest tightness
• mental confusion/ short-term-memory loss
• tingling fingers
• chronic cough
• blue coloring around lips
• waking at night gasping for breath
• water retention (especially feet/ ankles)

If you have any of these symptoms, you may have low oxygen levels.

Let me share a low oxygen story with you.  I’ve changed her name to protect her privacy, but she was a real person and this was her story.

Tanya was so blue (literally) one day when I arrived at her home that I sat her down and forcibly put oxygen on her. She wasn’t happy about it, but she seemed to calm down quickly as the color returned to her face.

I called her doctor from her house, as I was concerned about her low oxygen level at 77% resting on room air. I gave her quite a lecture about keeping that oxygen on until her doctor appointment the following day, and I left her feeling I had done all I could do.

The next time I went to Tanya’s home to check on her, she was blue again.

“Why aren’t you using oxygen, Tanya?” I asked.

With quite the attitude, she let me know, “my doctor says that you over reacted the last time you were here. He told me to use it when I feel like I need it. I am fine.”

Tanya’s oxygen level was 76%. She refused to even allow me to put the oxygen on her this time.

“After all,” she said, “I walk 2 miles every morning. What makes you think I need oxygen?”

Well, I tried once more to let her know why she needed to use oxygen. This time, she could not hear me.

Her doctor told her what she wanted to hear, and I was telling her what she didn’t want to hear.

She was dead in 4 months.

I was shocked that a person could live that long with such a low oxygen level, though she wasn’t living well. Many times I’ve wondered if she had been happier before she got so sick.

Tanya had plenty of good years left.  She just wouldn’t put my advice to the test and nurture herself with oxygen.

Don’t risk your life!

If you feel like you might have low oxygen level, have your doctor check your level with an oximeter.

Your insurance won’t pay for supplemental oxygen until your level falls as low as 88% oxygen saturation, though you NEED supplemental oxygen to prevent your oxygen level from falling below 92%!  This decision is NOT about what is BEST for YOU!

Don’t let anyone tell you that you have to be seated to qualify!  If your oxygen level is low during normal daily activity, your insurance SHOULD pay!  Demand the care you need!

If your oxygen level is below 92% …

• Get supplemental oxygen
• Use it to KEEP oxygen levels 92% or higher at ALL times
• Change your breathing!
  

You are experiencing a HUGE health crisis when your oxygen levels are that low!  Never minimize the importance of meeting this basic need!

However, breathing MORE will NOT give you MORE OXYGEN!!

You can’t just breathe more to get more oxygen.  Oh, I agree, it IS counter intuitive, but a fact just the same.
