Are you concerned about cholesterol?
Dr. Dwight Lundell’s book The Cholesterol Lie will help you understand why you should be more concerned about inflammation!
Instead of a cholesterol lowering diet, you should focus on an anti inflammation diet. Lowering your cholesterol will not reduce your risk of having a heart attack, but reducing the inflammation in your body just might.
Inflammation has everything to do with what you eat, so you are wise to carefully choose your diet.
Inflammation also has everything to do with with inactivity, so you are wise to get moving any way you can.
Inflammation has everything to do with stress, so you are wise to nurture stillness and peace in your life.
Inflammation is also a natural stage of the healing process.
There are 7 stages that disease will follow unless measures are taken to nurture yourself and restore balance.
You can argue family history and genes, but the fact is that disease begins as your body’s attempt to heal itself. Each phase of the disease process is more effort to restore balance.
Cancer is the final stage of disease, when the cells of the body litterally turn on you as enemy invaders. Up until that point, all the cells of your body are working in harmony to restore balance … to heal.
Your uncomfortable symptoms of inflammation cause you to stop and really notice what is going on in your body.
If you will spend quiet time with yourself each day, you will notice what your needs are and how to meet them BEFORE you create a crisis that manifests into physical or emotional suffering.
All of your complaints fall somewhere on the list below.
The 7 Stages of Disease
- nervous exhaustion (not enough fuel)
- toxicity (resulting from lack of energy)
- irritation (from building toxicity)
- INFLAMMATION (your body’s attempt to “clean house”, or “heal”)
- ulceration (toxicity eats away at tissues)
- induration (your body tries to encapsulate the toxicity to protect itself)
- cancer (when the cells of your harmonious organism turn against you)
When your body suffers a traumatic event it can trigger the inflammation process. When you cut your skin or break your bone, the inflammation process is an important part of healing. Shock is another example of this sudden trigger of inflammation.
However, chronic inflammation can also be your constant companion. Your watchful attention to your symptoms of disease can prompt you to take action BEFORE your dis-ease advances and causes you more suffering.
If you notice that you are running your system down, you can take steps to reduce demand and increase restoration.
Fatigue and restlessness are early indicators of trouble. If you ignore them, sypmtoms of inflammation are often MUCH more uncomfortable.
- Fever
- Chills
- Fatigue/loss of energy
- Headaches
- Loss of appetite
- Vomitting
- Muscle stiffness
- Redness
- Swollen joint that is warm to touch
- Joint pain
- Joint stiffness
- Loss of joint function
- Inflammation of the heart (myocarditis) may cause shortness of breath or leg swelling
- Inflammation of the small tubes that transport air to the lungs may cause an asthma attack
- Inflammation of the kidneys (nephritis) may cause high blood pressure or kidney failure
- Inflammation of the large intestine (colitis) may cause cramps and diarrhea
- Chronic inflammation of your blood vessels will quietly erode the health of your heart
Do you understand how uncomfortable your disease process can become in a quick hurry?
It’s helpful to understand that disease doesn’t start at any of these symptoms. This is Stage 4 disease. Dealing with symptoms of fatigue, irritation and restlessness early on can prevent the chronic inflammation that leads to heart disease and all chronic illness.
So what can you do about it?
Start with your focus on the quality of your sleep.
Sleep is SO important, because the fuel you burn is electricity, and you only make it while you sleep.
Meeting your needs naturally reduces inflammation. An anti inflammation diet is simply one that is loaded with fruits and veggies!

I agree with this post Carrie Tucker,
Just made the nerdiest correlation. Teeth brushing is to sleep as cholesterol is to lipid rafts. You can ask if you actually want to know.
Aloha Reyes,
Ok, I’ll bite. What the heck do you mean by “Teeth brushing is to sleep as cholesterol is to lipid rafts”?
Aren’t you an interesting one. My daughter takes pride in her nerdiness, though I must say I think she is beautiful in every way so not quite sure what she means by nerdy~!
Many blessings,
Carrie
Hi, Carrie,
How are you doing? Are you OK? I Don’t know if you were affected by the Tsunami, as I think you’re in Hawaii! Let me know.
Listen, I want to talk with you, but don’t have your email. Could you please email and send me your email so I can contact you?
Take care, and thanks for this great article. I’m going to reflect on those stages because I’ve been receiving some guidance to develop healing visualizations.
Light and love,
Maria Mar
