Graduating from high school is bound to bring up many happy memories and cause you to look forward with inspired goal setting.
My daughter, Briana, and I were discussing her first post here on Heart Failure Solutions.
I told her I wanted you all to get to know her a little bit so you will know what to expect from her future posting. She is VERY passionate about many subjects and a few of them are bound to catch your attention from the get go.
Somehow we got on the subject of “Bucket Lists”, and it was interesting to reflect on how different bucket list ideas can be depending on many factors, but most especially AGE.
I’ll let Briana share her thoughts with you here, and perhaps I’ll whip up a post of my own on the subject. That girl always inspires deep philosophical conversation that lingers long after we’ve finished our chat.
“Hi, I’m Briana.”
I’m young … I know.
Though, I am frequently the one to discipline my 7 year old brother, I take on a lot of the responsibility for helping my mom raise my siblings, and I often feel concerned about the future … so, I don’t usually FEEL very young.
When I compare my accomplishments with those of a senior, I realize that I sure don’t want to waste any of the many years ahead. With that motivation in mind I created a Bucket List.
Some of the things on my list are very simple. Some of them are just plain silly. Some of them mean a great deal to me.
You can learn a lot about someone by looking at their bucket list.
I read a bucket list that included “Have someone propose to me under the Eiffel tower”.
There is nothing on my list that’s very difficult to do, or depends on anyone else. Even though a proposal like that would be AMAZING! You can’t control other people, and personally, I think a moment like that would be much better as a surprise.
Everything on my list is pretty manageable, the only thing that could get in my way is that green piece of paper that seems to have all mighty power over us. I made it doable because I honestly do plan to accomplish every single thing on my bucket list!
Number one on my Bucket List is the starting point for many of my other bucket list ideas. All I need to do is get to England (London especially)!
I’ve taken my love for England to quite a large extreme. I’ve gone around the house (and sometimes in public) talking in an English accent, which drives my family members crazy. I’ve visited London on Google maps so often, that I wouldn’t be surprised if I could easily find my way around!
I’ve done multiple projects on England in school. One research project I spent hours and hours calculating and planning a $10,000 trip to the UK. When it was complete, I redid the research on my own to find the absolute cheapest possible trip to London! My bag is the British flag, and you should see the walls of my bedroom!
This whole obsession started with a band….a boy band…and then another….and…i think you get the point. I basically fell in love with an English boy band called “Busted” which soon lead to my love for boy band “McFly”, and my love for England had begun!
You might view this as silly or “very teenager-ish of me” but it really has opened my eyes. Until my discovery of these boy bands I really didn’t have it in my head that there was a world out side of the rain forest I grew up in.
There are people who are exactly like me and everyone I know, but with different lives and different everything! They talk and joke, though maybe in a different language. They like to have fun, though possibly in a very different way than I do. Just think, there are billions of people out there and I will only meet a fraction of them! They are no different than I, yet at the same time different in every way.
That thought excites me as much today as it did when I discovered it! It seems like the most wonderful thing in the world to me. I think I reacted so strongly to England in particular, because there are so many similarities to go with all the differences.
They speak English, just like I do, except they call french fries “chips”, jelly is referred to as “jam” and what we know as potato chips are called “crisps” in England. So different and yet so alike!
Another thing that is just absolutely stunning to me is how OLD everything is! Here in America everything is new. This county is new. We are only 200 years old! America is a toddler in the country universe!
The idea that I could go and spend a night in a building older than my country is beautiful to me! I’d love to just sit there and think of all the history that went on in that room, all the life and death, all the laughter and tears of countless stories.
That’s why I want to travel, and why London calls to me.
England is the absolute perfect entry for #1 on my Bucket List!
Briana’s Bucket List
1. Go to England
– Ride on the London eye
– Go to Big Ben and Parliament
– Eat at the Elephant House (where JK Rowling wrote a large sum of Harry Potter)
– Dance to “Everybody Knows” (by Mcfly) in a London Hotel room
– Go to Kensington Gardens and see the Peter Pan Statue
– Go to St. James Park and Green Park
– Have a proper tea
– Find a little Cafe and read
2. See Mcfly
(in England or anywhere!)
3. Eat Escargo and Drink Wine in France and Italy
(before I leave Europe!)
4. Go skydiving
5. Go apple picking
(they don’t grow in the jungle)
6. Ride in a limo
7. Eat a box of chocolates never knowing what I’m gonna get
8. Ride in a hot air balloon
9. Kiss under mistletoe
(ok, so maybe this one will require another person, buy hey, I’m not asking for much)
10. Go to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter
11. Learn the alphabet backwards
(already accomplished!)
12. Learn to make floating spit bubbles
(kinda gross but really cool, inspired by Danny Jones of “McFly”, and this Bucket List Goal is complete as well!)
13. Do the splits
(I can do this too!)
14. See a show on Broadway
15. Throw a fistful of Glitter in the air
(inspired by the song by Pink)
You might not be interested much in my bucket list ideas and I might not want to trade you for yours, but everyone needs to be filled with the inspiration to create more fun and wonder in their lives.
