Can you be depressed and not know it?

We talked yesterday about how setting goals is the best way to recognize your greatness, and how meeting with like minds is the best way to ensure consistent action toward your goals.

Sometimes you can’t see what is getting in your way!

The Mastermind Team can “hear what you really want” and they can see what you can’t.

One of my very first mastermind team mates changed her life after the mastermind group helped her shine a light on her symptoms of depression!

I used to mastermind with a group of ladies at the gym, way back before I called it Masterminding.  We would sit on the floor in the aerobics room, surrounded by mirrors and stretch ourselves from head to toe.

(Of course today I would ONLY stretch like that AFTER a workout, but that’s another story.)

It was so encouraging to see their familiar faces each Monday, Wednesday and Friday … same time, same place.  The wonderful life lessons shared and heart warming stories enjoyed by the group have stayed with me over the years.

Joy was a beautiful woman who was always sharing  fitness resources.  She would bring the group the newest lifting techniques and philosophies, which would often spark debate.  Joy was a walking talking advertisement for the nutritional supplement that she swore by.

Yet Joy didn’t have much Joy.

One morning as the ladies gathered, Joy began sharing her heartache over losing her mother. Though we had been meeting for years at that point, the entire group was stunned to learn that her mother’s passing had been very recent.

We didn’t know that her mother had been suffering for years, and we didn’t know about the many hours that Joy had been caring for her dying mother.  She had never let us see her struggle.

As she spoke she began to cry.  With every eye wet we began to get up off the floor and form a group hug.

Kathy asked Joy why she hadn’t confided in us sooner and let us support her through the rough times.  Joy said she just didn’t want to burden anyone.

Kathy said, “now I understand why you’ve been so depressed these past 6 months”.

Joy was shocked to hear her say that.

She shared with us how wonderful it had been to be with her mother, and share so many memories and so much laughter in the days leading up to her death.  Joy said it was really hard, too, but that caring for her mother was the most rewarding thing that she had ever done.

As she spoke she began to glow!  She was still crying, but by the look on her face, I’d say they were tears of joy.  I looked around the group and saw smiles on every tearful face.

The whole group agreed that Joy looked happier at that moment than we had ever seen her.

Joy said, “It feels good to talk about my mom, and share with you how much I loved her.”

Even though the group could easily see Joy’s symptoms of depression the previous six months.  Joy was unaware that she had been depressed, or she considered it “normal” considering the circumstances of her mothers illness.

Joy’s family just didn’t talk about their feelings.  It felt uncomfortable to bring up the subject of death and dying to her friends at the health club.  She didn’t want to “bring anybody down”.

When she realized how much it helped her as well as the rest of the group to remember lost loved ones and laugh together, she started to recognize her pattern of suppressing emotions.

She didn’t want to feel the “bad emotions”, but she realized that she was not very good at expressing the good ones either.  With the support of the group, Joy set her sites on feeling good and cultivating happiness.

The most important goal you can set for yourself is to FIND happiness!

In fact make a road map to happiness, because when you consistently vibrate with joy you will attract the perfect circumstances to nurture your talents and realize your greatness.

As you create your map, remember:

  • You are vibrating with energy all the time.
  • Your energy is dark, fearful and powerless…
  • Bright, joyful, and full of appreciation…
  • Or somewhere in between.

Joy is YOUR compass to happiness!

To get to HAPPINESS try this Heart Math Technique:

#2  Next … remember a Joyful memory and focus on your heart.

Seriously!

#3  Feel the Joy of that memory as you focus on your heart.

#4  Focus on your heart and breathe the Joy of that memory into your heart.

#5  Take note of how far up the emotional scale you feel now.

In a single moment that simple act will tune every cell in your body to the vibration of Joy!  While you are vibrating with Joy you will attract Joy.  The Universal Law of Attraction guarantees it!

Did you climb all the way to Joy?
